30 Days of Thanksgiving: Day One

The 30 Days of Thanksgiving is finally here!  I’ve been looking forward to this.  I feel like I need to be more thankful.  If you haven’t celebrated 30DoT with us before let me give you a little history.  I’ve been doing this for three years now.  Starting 30 days before Thanksgiving, I make a list of the things I’m thankful for.  AT LEAST one a day… usually more.  Once you get started it’s easier to keep going.

It started for me as a little rebellion against what my dh(aka, The Music Man) calls “Hallowthankmas.” The commercial holidays that seem to start earlier each year.  Celebrating the birth of Christ is an important part of our lives as Christian, but the materialism that shows up in stores 2 months (or more) before December 25 has little to do with the real meaning of Christmas.

I hope & pray that many of you will join us.  Get a little notebook, or even just a piece of paper and start your list of what you’re thankful for.  If you start a notebook, include Scriptures, poems, songs, or prayers.  You could even illustrate it! The photo above is a page from one of my Thanksgiving journals.

I posted some things I’m thankful for on Facebook already.  Here they are, and a few more:

  • my family
  • texting
  • food, and the local choice we have of good, healthy things to eat
  • beautiful weather
  • a walk with The Music Man
  • our home

  1. My oldest son will be home from deployment in Iraq in time to spend Thanksgiving at home…not sure I can be any more thankful than this. 😀

  2. I am thankful for the joy in my heart the Christmas story brings. I am so excited this year to anticipate and enjoy all things Christmas!
